Solar Powered School Library for the Shree Tashi Chimay Gatsal Primary School, Bigu, Nepal

In partnership with the Nepal Youth Foundation and Books for Change, Sharing Hands supports the setting up of solar powered school library for the Shree Tashi Chimay Gatsal Primary School.

Will you help?

In the Shree Tashi Chimay Gatsal Primary School, 74 students are taught by 5 teachers.

A school library with computers and an electronic library does not yet exist.

Why? Where? Who? How much?

The school is in Bigu, a mountain village in the Dolakha district of Nepal.

The village houses the oldest Buddhist nunnery in Nepal, which also runs the village school for the village children.

A dirt road in poor condition leads to Bigu. The villagers lead a hard-working, rural life, subsisting on local agriculture or earning money through tourism.

Due to the insufficient and irregular power supply, the library needs to be solar powered.

Two education experts from Nepal Youth Foundation traveled to Bigu in spring 2022 to evaluate the situation on site. In their final report they recommend setting up a school library in der Shree Tashi Chimay Gatsal Primary School and make themselves available for the execution.

The project is carried out in cooperation and partnership with Shree Tashi Chimay Gatsal Primary School and the local authorities. The project is coordinated by Books for Change and financed by Sharing Hands.

The entire facility of the school library costs in total CHF 23'289.

How is the school library set up?
