Hill Shine Academy was founded in 2010 on the initiative of Nepalese primary school teachers to help disadvantaged children from poor families in the mountainous area around the mountain village Mude to provide quality education. After the earthquake, the school was rebuilt from 2015-2017 by a Swiss team of experts.
Mude is located in the Sindhupalchowk district, 2,286 meters above sea level - 70 km northeast of Kathmandu.
In the school, 100 primary school students are taught by 8 teachers. In addition to the official Nepalese school program, the lessons include lessons in English and computer science. Music lessons are to be introduced as soon as financial resources allow.
As in many mountain villages, mainly indigenous peoples live in Mude, Tamang, Sherpa, Janajati or Dalit, who are still disadvantaged in several ways in Nepal.
